The First Lesson

Our teachers make it a priority to get acquainted with your child's abilities, interests, and goals in music while teaching proper technique on their instrument. They will sit down with you and your child, to find out what they hope to achieve from learning music. They have the experience to help them reach their goals no matter their ability level.

Lessons are held in a very relaxed environment. Parents are welcome to join their child’s lesson, but it is not required.

We aim to tap into each student’s natural abilities so that they have fun learning while achieving success and learn life skills like teamwork, perseverance, and discipline. Your child will be playing their favorite piece of music before you know it!

Our guitar teachers instruct in a variety of styles, from classical to popular music, and can teach acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar, and more. Every student is different, so guitar lessons are personalized to each student. We focus on teaching the fundamentals and proper technique, but we also make it fun by finding music our students are excited to play.

Our goal is not only to educate students in music, but also to help them become well-rounded individuals with proper ethics and values while stimulating creativity at all levels. Music teaches responsibility, patience, determination and perseverance.

Can my child choose their own songs to learn?

Yes! Your child will have the opportunity to choose their favorite songs or even compose their own music. Parents are encouraged to attend student recitals (which are held twice a year) so that you can see how far your child has come in their musical journey, and to get an up close view of his/her progress.

How long does it take to learn to play guitar?

It depends on how much effort you put in and how good your guitar instructor is.

For most, it will take a few months of lessons and practice to get comfortable playing some basics with the guitar.

Ideally, you should find a qualified guitar instructor who can teach you the basics and help you practice regularly.

With diligence and patience, anyone can learn to play the guitar.

What's the best age to start guitar/ukulele lessons?

The youngest age we recommend starting to learn guitar is 7 years old.

We have found that students younger than that can get discouraged with the large instrument and your fingers can get sore having to strum and press down the strings.

Starting guitar lessons at a young age can be very beneficial — children have a natural ability to learn languages and musical notes. Beginning guitar lessons at a young age helps to nurture this ability and can lead to rapid progress in learning how to play the guitar.

In addition, young children are very enthusiastic and motivated learners – they want to learn new things and they enjoy practicing. This enthusiasm often continues as they get older, and so starting guitar lessons at a young age can help to establish a lifelong love of music.

For a student younger than 7 that is interested in guitar, we recommend starting with ukulele. The strings are nylon so they are gentler for small children and the ukulele is in general just a smaller instrument.

What guitar styles do you teach?

We teach all styles of guitar, from rock to pop, even some classical.

Acoustic guitar is a style that can be played in a variety of ways, from finger-picking to strumming chords.

Electric guitars are a must-have for any beginner or professional musician. They're the perfect way to get your band noticed on stage and they come in every color imaginable!

Bass guitar is the lowest-pitched member of the guitar family, and is mainly used in popular music genres such as rock, blues, and country.

Ukelele is a small four-stringed instrument that originated in Hawaii and is often used in folk music. It has a mellower sound than other string instruments like the guitar or banjo.

What’s the best way to learn how to play guitar?

The best way to learn guitar is by starting with the fundamentals and proper technique, and then gradually adding more fun and challenging material.

At our school, we focus on teaching the essentials in a way that is both fun and easy to understand. We believe that if you can play the basics well, you'll be able to play anything you want. And once you have a strong foundation, you can explore any style of music that interests you.

Do I need to bring my instrument with me to my lessons?

Yes! If you are learning : Guitar, Ukulele, or Violin you need to bring the instrument with you for your lessons. (The academy has a drum set and piano in each studio room.)

Do I need to purchase the instrument I’m learning to have at home?

Yes! You will need to have your instrument at home so you can practice the homework your teacher gives you and progress in your instrument. There are a lot of rental options if you aren’t ready to buy an instrument yet.

We have a guitar at home but we’re not sure if it’s good enough or usable for lessons?

Go ahead and bring it in for your 1st lesson and your teacher will help you get it set up or let you know if you need to look into getting a better instrument. If you do need to get another guitar, your teacher will have great recommendations on what to look for and where to get it.

Our teachers use innovative teaching methods that will help your child achieve their musical goals at whatever level is required - whether it's playing by ear, learning basic technique on piano, guitar, violin or other instruments or simply getting introduced to music & its various facets using MIDI keyboards & other computerized musical instruments.
